Algeria senior national team defeated the Elephant of Coted’Ivoire 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 regulation time to set up a semifinal clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
20th minute goal from Sofiane Feghouli put the Algerians in an early comfortable lead.
Jonathan Kodjia strike leveled things after Baghdad Bounedjah failed to double the lead from the spot.
1-1 it was until after extra time of play.
Wilfred Bony, the extra time substitute was the first man to miss from the spot following a superb save from the Algerian goalkeeper, Rais M’Bolhi.
It ended 4-3 in favour of Algeria.
The win means Algeria will trade tackles with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the semifinals of the 2019 African Nations Cup.
Super Eagles saw off South Africa 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the biennial tournament.
The three-time African champions have conceded five goals while Algeria conceded their first goal in the quarterfinal clash against Ivory Coast. Nigeria have scored 7 goals while their Algerian counterparts scored a total of 10 goals.
The semifinal match between Nigeria and Algeria gets underway on Sunday at 8:00 pm.
