IKORODU OGA 2018 SET TO HOLD 10TH – 17TH NOVEMBER 2018; PROMISES TO BE DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, STYLE
The chairman Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru has announced the dates for the Ikorodu 2018 Oga day celebrations alongside the scheduled programmes for the week long event. This was disclosed at a press briefing held yesterday, Sunday 9th September 2018.
According to the Chairman, the yearly cultural celebrations will commence on Saturday 10th November 2018 to Saturday 17th 2018 and promises to be bigger and better. As usual, the cultural Festival with the theme “Cultural values as catalyst to Socio-Economic Development” is scheduled to kick start two weeks earlier with the usual walk for fitness exercise.
The edition which will mark the 27th in the history of the division will commence on Friday 9th November 2018 with a prayer at the mosque to seek God’s blessings which will be closely followed by a Thanksgiving service in the church on Sunday 11th November 2018.
Otunba Ganiu affirmed that this year’s edition will not be much different in terms of programmes from last year’s edition but the contents, scope and style would be slightly different to avert monotony.
“some of the programmes for the event include but not limited to schools debate, Marathon race, Beauty competition, Music extravaganza, Cultural display of Ikorodu heritage, Woro carnival, Drama, Youth emancipation programmes, Medical check up, Lectures, Elders day e.t.c” he explained.
The newly introduced programmes to the Oga day celebrations include Ikorodu-Oga Mini Trade Fair aimed to give Entrepreneurs the opportunity to display their wares and products. This initiative is in partnership with Ultra Signatures Limited.
In the same vein as part of the newly introduced programmes, there will be a corporate dinner with the Chief Executive Officers of Business Organizations & Enterprise in Ikorodu Division which according to the organizers would allow them to interact and explore among themselves how they could be beneficial to each other thereby enhancing and growing the economy of Ikorodu Division. This year’s celebration will also see a lucky winner going away with a brand new car.
“Added to this year’s celebrations is a Raffle competition of which the selling of the tickets commenced a few months ago. The final Raffle draw would be held on the 15th November 2018 where the winner will go home with a Corolla Saloon car with some consolation prizes for other winners” he informed.
The organizers of the event promised better security arrangement to avert uncontrollable commotion. The chairman further called on all for their support to foster the success of the indigenous event by being peaceful and orderly without ignoring the instructions of security agencies in place.
The chairman finally used the medium to thank the people of Ikorodu, Patrons and past chairmen who in various ways have continued to identify with the vision.
