2 Killed, Others Injured As Soldiers, Civilians Clash In Oyo
A soldier attached to the Oyo State Joint Security Task Force code-named Operation Burst , Operation Burst, and a native of Iluju in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been reportedly killed.
TRIXX NG learnt that they were killed as a result of an unrest which occurred during a football match organised by youths in Iluju.
According to a witness, one of the youths left a motorcycle on the field where a group had scheduled to play the football match.
The source said the development led to a misunderstanding, compelling one of the factions to invite men of Operation Burst to settle the crisis.
City & Crime gathered that as the men of Operation Burst arrived, one of the officers shot a villager, a development which prompted the other villagers to go on a reprisal.
The crisis that followed resulted in the death of an officer and the destruction of a van belonging to Operation Burst.
The director general of Operation Burst, Col Oladipo Ajibola, who confirmed the killing of the soldier and the civilian to journalists in Ibadan on Monday, said a rifle was recovered from the youths while the corpse of the soldier had been deposited in a morgue, noting that normalcy had been restored in the village.
