Trixx NG learnt that the released list was in compliance with the timetable and schedule of activities released over the weekend by INEC and the Electoral Act 2022.
Speaking with reporters at the end of the commission’s management meeting on Tuesday, INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye, said the list was released in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
“Section 10(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 states that “the Commission shall, within 60 days after each year, make available to every political party the names and addresses of each person registered during that year,” he said
Okoye disclosed that the electoral agency has given softcopies of the list of persons registered as voters in 2021 to each political party.
The INEC spokesman said the commission has fulfilled two of the activities on the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 elections released on February 26.
Okoye said the commission has implemented the publication of the Notice of Election and the release of a new voters list to political parties.
