The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) have stated the need for Africans to come together to review strategies, synergize and build bridges of development to achieve the desired Africa.

The Director-General, CBAAC, Hon. Olubunmi Amao, therefore, noted that it is necessary to start engaging now for the realization of the desired vision of Africa.

Amao made this known at a two-day International Conference on Renaissance of African Culture in the areas of music, craft, language, literature and folklore held between 9th and 10th of December, 2021 in Lagos.

She explained that Africans must utilize the potentials inherent in African cultural elements such as arts, music, crafts, language, literature and folklore, etc., to actualize this dream if Africa is to make any meaningful progress in advancing the fortunes of her peoples.

“I am glad that the African Diaspora has since been recognised as the 6th region of Africa, it is therefore important that Africa and African Diaspora must as a matter of necessity come together to review strategies, synergize and build bridges of development to achieve the Africa We Want.

“It is our believe in CBAAC that if Africa and indeed peoples of African descents are to realize the vision of the Africa We Want, the time to start engaging is now.

“You will all agree with me that if Africa is to make any meaningful progress in advancing the fortunes of her peoples, we must utilize the potentials inherent in African cultural elements such as arts, music, crafts, language, literature and folklore, etc., to actualize this dream.” She stated.

Touching on the rationale behind the conference, The DG explained that it was instituted over 2 decades ago as an avenue through which issues that affect the future and aspirations of Black and African peoples and their place in history are constantly examined and interrogated by scholars of Black and African descent.

Amao added that the conference is not only highlighting the contributions of the Black race to world knowledge of thoughts but also to address seemingly intractable challenges affecting Black and African peoples and their quest for recognition.
