Bandits Attack Joint Military Base, Kill Soldiers, Others, Burn vehicles

Suspected bandits have killed unspecified members of a joint patrol team when they attacked Burkusuma camp, a joint military base in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to sources, the bandits stormed the camp in early hours of Friday in large numbers and began shooting at the place sporadically.

Though the number of army casualties could not be confirmed, three of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were confirmed to be among the casualties.

The bandits also burnt down two patrol vehicles and drove away another one which was used to convey food items stolen from the surrounding villages.

It was learnt that, the bandits also attacked Katsira village, shot four persons and abducted three others from the village.

Two of the victims were said to have died instantly while the remaining two are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The state Commissioner for Carriers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (retd.), who also confirmed the attack on the military base, however, said he was not sure of the number of casualties.

Spokesman for the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Yahaya Ngulde, could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.

On his part, Sanusi Abubakar, Sokoto Police Command PPRO, said he was not aware of the attacks.
