BREAKING! Senate Will Not Confirm Buhari’s Appointee, Abdulrasheed Bawa As EFCC Chairman

Yesterday, news broke out that President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new chairman of the EFCC.

This is coming after the former acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu was suspended in July 2020 for having some corruption charges against him.

Although the president has approved Abdulrasheed Bawa as the chairman, this is subject to the senate confirmation, just like it happened during Magu’s time.

Magu was never made the chairman of the EFCC because he wasn’t confirmed by the senate despite the fact that President Buhari sent him to them severally.

This time around, history might repeat itself again due to the fact that Abdulrasheed Bawa also has some pending cases, and if the senate wants to be true to their duty, He will never be confirmed.

In 2020, according to reports by PEOPLES GAZETTE, Abdulrasheed Bawa was arrested and detained for having theft cases, He was said to have sold some ceased trailers to people, among some other things.

Apart from this, Abdulrasheed Bawa’s appointment was greeted by lots of rejection, infact, Ibrahim Magu’s case has still not been totally settled, the fact that he was suspended because of the crisis doesn’t mean He has been automatically sacked. He has not been convicted of those crimes he was accused of, and so far, He has been able to defend himself to some extent.

All things being equal, Abdulrasheed Bawa’s confirmation will be stalled due to this things, even though the EFCC has said the newly appointed chairman has no case to answer, but its not in their jurisdiction, as long as he was arrested, detained, and till now, still has a case to answer, He is not totally cleared.

However, one begins to wonder why President Buhari has failed to choose from other officials that have a clean record in the anti-graft agency.
