Enyimba FC’s goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, has shared his reflections on the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, emphasizing the challenges faced and the resilience demonstrated by all participating teams. Despite the rigors, he expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the season and has already set his sights on a new chapter with Sudanese giants, Al Merreikh, signing a three-year contract.

Reflecting on the recently concluded season, Olorunleke acknowledged the difficulties but highlighted the collective effort and safety experienced by all 20 teams. “The just concluded season was really tough,” he admitted.
“But at the end of the day, we thank God that it was a success for all the teams. We have every reason to be grateful, especially for the safety and lack of life-threatening accidents during the journeys for all the clubs.”

Olorunleke’s gratitude extends beyond mere survival; he recognizes the efforts of the league organizers and the head of the league in ensuring a smooth conclusion to the season.
“Even despite all the difficulties, we were still able to pull through. It wasn’t easy, but we have every reason to thank God and glorify His name. I must commend the organizers and the league management for all the efforts they put in to see that the league ended successfully.”

The goalkeeper also took a moment to congratulate the newly crowned champions, Enugu Rangers, and to commend all clubs, including those that faced relegation. “I congratulate the league champions, Enugu Rangers, and every other club that gave their all. Even the teams that were relegated, they fought hard and gave a good account of themselves. It’s unfortunate that it didn’t end well for them, but it was a good season overall.”

Reflecting on his own performance, Olorunleke noted his personal achievements, including keeping 11 clean sheets throughout the season. “In summary, I would say the past season was indeed a great one. A lot of lessons were learned, and many things happened, but in the end, we just have to move on and hope for the best.”

Looking ahead, Olorunleke is excited about his move to Al Merreikh, a club with a rich history and a strong presence in African football. His three-year contract with the Sudanese side marks a significant step in his career. “I’m looking forward to this new challenge with Al Merreikh and hope to contribute to their success,” he stated.

As he departs Enyimba, Olorunleke carries with him a season of growth, resilience, and valuable experiences, ready to embark on a new journey in Sudan.
