Lagos state has over the years been a center of attention for other states in terms of security, development, infrastructures, provision of social amenities and every good things to make life better for citizens.

These surprising and laudable improvements in the state gave every governors the authority to say they are making Lagos state a smart city which of course isn’t out of place.

Up until the administration of the former governor of Lagos, Akinwummi Ambode, all of these were still in order but unfortunately, one of the key sectors of the Lagos society, which is security has diminished in terms of improvement.

It is a known fact that no matter how beautiful a state is, no matter the number of skyscrapers, flyovers, recreational centres, beautiful universities, the primary responsibility of a governor is to ensure the security of lives and properties or else, all the amenities will be as good as useless.

Unfortunately, Lagos state is toiling the path of making citizens not even feel the usefulness of some of the amenities provided because someone moving out of his house isn’t sure He or she will return back home without facing armed robbers, kidnappers, phone thieves, and other criminals.

There have been several save our soul calls to the governor of the state yet no feasible improvement has been made. It all started with Ketu in Lagos where armed robbers attack motorists in broad daylight successfully, it didn’t happen once. At a time Ketu became a no go area for the feeble minded for fear of being attacked.

Just recently, we heard reports of the activities of kidnappers in Lekki, even though this was denied by the Lagos police but governor Sanwoolu confirmed it during an interview with Arise TV.

Some weeks back, the baale of Allen, Ikeja had a town hall meeting to speak on the state of security in Ikeja. The community leaders expressed his shock at the way criminals are having splendid moments in Ikeja without being nabbed.

Days ago, another SOS message was sent by residents of Fagba in Lagos state, crying out on the influx of criminals to the area and that no one can sleep with their two eyes closed.

One of the things people blame for these acts in the unavailability of Lagos police patrols. Before now, we used to have police patrolling streets, highways in order to scare criminals away and probably arrest any of them but now, we no longer see them on the streets, making it easy for criminals to operate.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has not done a lot in terms of security although he has done so much in improving Lagos state but if he doesn’t work on security, criminal are ready to destroy whatever it is he has done.

This is not a time to treat them with levity, just like President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Sannwoolu needs to speak with them in the language they understand.
