JAKANDE’S DEATH: A COLOSSAL LOSS TO LAGOS STATE- SOMOLU LG CHAIRMAN ‘DULLAR’
_”Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”_
_”Surely, we belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return” ~Q2v156!_
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our dearly beloved aged Symbolic Statesman, a Prolific Journalist, former Minister for Works and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State (1979-1983), *Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande.*
The late Jakande was highly regarded by the colonial powers and well-known for his meritorious services on Journalism during his workaholic days in notable Newspaper Companies.
As the first President of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and the founder of then John West Publication, publishing the Lagos News became another storyline of his remarkable career.
His name will forever be remembered in the history of Lagos City, especially for his cardinal policies, effective style of governance and tremendous administrative impacts on Free Education, Health sectors, cheap Housing Units and metroline projects, as implemented to cater mostly for the poor and transform the state as the ‘City of the People’.
What more can I say to salute this great and generous politician who saw the need and initiated it with a large heart.
Baba’s death is indeed a colossal loss to Lagos State. His achievements speaks more of his uniqueness as a political father figure in the Country.
I pray Almighty Allah shower him mercy, grant him the highest level of paradise and give his family the fortitude to bear the colossal loss. Aamin!
