JUST IN: 12 Days To Go, Fresh Suit Against Tinubu’s Inauguration Emerges

TRIXX NG reports that a civil society organization, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative (ASRADI), has lodged a lawsuit with a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to prevent the planned inauguration of Bola Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.
The suit, labeled FHC/ABJ/CS/669/2023, accuses Tinubu of perjury due to his alleged failure to disclose his possession of a Guinean passport.
ASRADI argues that when filling out Form EC9 for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to qualify as a presidential candidate, Tinubu violated his oath by omitting this information.
In an urgent affidavit, ASRADI has requested an expedited hearing before the scheduled inauguration ceremony. However, no hearing date has been set at this time.
This development follows a separate legal action taken by residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who have also sought to halt Tinubu’s inauguration.
The residents, represented by Anyaegbunam Ubaka Okoye, David Aondover Adzer, Jeffrey Oheobeh Ucheh, Osang Paul, and Chibuke Nwachukwu, have requested a court order to restrain the Chief Justice of Nigeria, as well as any judicial officers, authorities, or individuals, from swearing in any candidate from the February 25 presidential election as president or vice president.
They aim to obtain a definitive judicial determination, in line with Section 134(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution, on whether the candidate fulfills the constitutional requirements
