JUST IN: Edo Deputy Governor, NFF President, Others Among Nigerians Stranded At Libya Airport

TRIXX NG reports that the deputy governor of Edo state, Phillip Shiabu, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, the Lagos State Football Association chairman, and other officials of the country’s football federation are among those stranded at Libya airport for more than 13 hours.
The aforementioned personalities had flown into Libya yesterday with the Super Eagles team in preparation for an AFCON qualifier match billed to be held on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles team was however made to land at an airport different from their initial plan when they left Abuja for Libya.
Unfortunately, they have all been held hostages in Libya for more than 13 hours without provisions for accommodation, feeding, or internet access.
According to reports, they were blocked from accessing hotel accommodation that they wanted to sort out themselves as they were locked inside the airport.
The Nigeria Football Federation has reacted to this treatment in a statement where it was also revealed that the super eagles players have decided to withdraw from participating in the match.

Super Eagles still at Al Abraq Airport 12 hours after landing in Libya!
The delegation of Nigeria to Tuesday’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya still remained at the Al Abraq Airport 12 hours after landing in Libya.
The chartered ValueJet aircraft was, strangely and in a dangerous manner, diverted to the small airport away from Benghazi just as the pilot was completing his approach to the Benghazi Airport. We understand the Al Abraq International Airport is only used for hajj operations.
Fatigued players and officials have remained nonplussed as the host Libyan Football Federation failed to send any reception team or even vehicles to take the delegation members from the airport to their hotel, said to be 3 hours away in Benghazi.
The NFF made arrangements for separate vehicles for the team, but the plan was unhinged by the diversion of the aircraft. Players have resolved not to play the match any longer as NFF officials are making plans to fly the team back home.
