Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, a son of the former Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi, has confirmed his presidential ambition after picking a form from the nation’s electoral body on Sunday, November 14.

Trixx NG learnt that he has completed all the required legal conditions and also given a voter registration card for the Sebha district.

Libya’s first-ever direct presidential election, with a first round on December 24, is the culmination of a UN-led process began last year to put an end to years of conflict following the overthrow of tyrant Moamer Kadhafi in 2011.

Candidate registration began in Libya on Monday.

Seif al-Islam, 49, came out of the shadows in July, telling The New York Times that he was contemplating a political comeback.

He said he intended to “restore the lost unity” of Libya after a decade of upheaval in a rare interview, and he did not rule out running for president.
The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the dictator’s former heir apparent for crimes against humanity (ICC).

Seif al-Islam had not been seen or heard from since June 2014, when he appeared in a Tripoli court via video link from Zintan, in the west of the nation, during his trial.
