Oyo Government Speaks On Emergence Of New Alaafin
The Oyo State Government has urged indigenes of the state to be patient as a new Alaafin will emerge soon.
Governor Seyi Makinde made this known at the eighth-day Fidau/interdenominational prayer held in honour of the late Oba Adeyemi at the palace arcade in Oyo.
TRIXX NG recalls that the late Alaafin died on April 22, at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti where he went for a routine medical check-up.
Makinde, represented by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Bayo Lawal, the governor acknowledged the unrest that the monarch’s death had caused and called for calm as steps were being taken toward selecting a new king.
He said: “People are eager to see the next king, but we have to follow due process.
“We promise not to compromise and another Alaafin will come in due time.”
Earlier in the day, the Imam Masud Ajokidero and Rev. Eyitayo Sulola had advised the people of Oyo to maintain the same orderliness that was observed when the monarch was alive.
They subsequently urged the kingmakers not to get influenced by money when selecting the new monarch.
In her remarks, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, the Iyalode of Yorubaland, described the late Alaafin as the father of Yorubas, who always fought for the right of his people.
Lawson said, “He always listen to the cry of Yorubas and was great historian. I wish the incoming king will sustain the legacies he left behind.”
