The candidate of the People democratic party in the December 5 imo north by-election, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu has condemned the recent attack on the police headquarters and correctional facility in Owerri, Imo state capital.

News had it yesterday that some suspected bandits attacked the facilities in the early hours of the day, and freed over 1,800 prisoners in the correctional centre.

While reacting to this in a statement released, Emmanuel Okewulonu described the attack as unnecessary and uncalled for especially at a time when the country is faced with several insecurity challenges.

He explained that there is need for every citizen of Nigeria to protect government facilities built for the sole aim of making life better for everyone, and not destroy it.

He further urged the Inspector General Of Police, Adamu Mohammed to commence a swift investigation, and ensure the culprits are brought to book.

‘The attack on the Police headquarters and Correction centre in Owerri is highly condemnable at a time like this when the country is bleeding of the wounds of Insecurity.

It’s more painful that our dear Imo state is the victim of the unsecured state of our country, caused by bandits and unscrupulous elements in our society.

There is need for every Nigerian citizen to take responsibility of protecting our assets and facilities, as they are there to make life a better place for all of us, destroying them is destroying our heritage, which is wrong.

I also want to applaud the Inspector General Of Police, Adamu Mohammed for efforts made so far as regards this, however, I want to urge the security operatives to swiftly apprehend the culprits who perpetrated this act on our dear state’’
