The all progressive congress (APC) will be holding its national convention on Tuesday, 7th of June, 2022 in order to elect a presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

There have been crisis faced by the party as a result of who becomes the flagbearer of the party in the election. Most recent of the crisis was a fracas between southern and northern governors of the party during a meeting held with President Buhari some days ago. Due to the emergence of Abubakar Atiku as the candidate of the PDP, the northern governors argued that a northerner should also be picked as APC candidate to tackle Atiku in the election and of course, the southern governors didn’t find this funny as it led to the meeting ending in a deadlock.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with President Buhari, he pleaded with the governors of the party to allow him choose his successor which means a consensus may likely be used to select the flagbearer of the party in 2023.

Following President Buhari’s request, some governors didn’t buy into it as they insisted on an election taking place to elect the party’s presidential candidate because the party has several aspirants numbering close to 25 eyeing the presidential seat.

Since a consensus was not agreed, it means some aspirants will be compelled to step down for the President’s candidate to allow him record victory at the election which will be held next week.

Below are some aspirants that will agree to stepping down for President Buhari’s candidate:

1 VP Yemi Osinbajo: the vice president of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo is a top aspirant in the contest, he has pulled so much weight since he declared to run for the post of the president under the platform of the APC. Though, Many believe he is the president’s choice but one can’t be sure. If he isn’t the president’s choice, as a loyal vice to the president, he will definitely step down for the president’s candidate if compelled to.

2 Senator Ibikunle Amosun: the former governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun is also vying for the post of the presidency under APC and is a top aspirant. It is a known fact that Amosun is a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari. If compelled to stop down, he will definitely do it for the president.

3 Governor Dave Umahi: the governor of ebonyi state, Dave Umahi is also a top aspirant from the south east zone. He is known to be a loyal ally of the president since he joined the ruling party. It doesn’t look like the ruling party will zone to the south east and if asked to step down for the president’s choice, he will gladly do.

4 Pastor Tunde Bakare: Though a frequent critic of the president, Tunde Bakare is a very close ally of the president. He would have been the president’s vice president if not for some reasons. He is also vying for the post of the presidency and is a top aspirant from the religious sector. If asked to step down, he will gladly do.

5 Governor Fayemi: The governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi has been in the president’s corner for a while. He was a serving minister before he resigned to contest for the post of a governor in Ekiti state. Of course, his loyalty remains with the president and if asked to step down for the president’s candidate, he will gladly do so.
