Three APC Chieftains Tinubu Should Woo To Clinch 2023 Presidential Ticket

Today, the national leader of the all progressive congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared his ambition to run for the presidency seat in 2023. He made the revelation shortly after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

In his speech, he made it known that he has officially informed the president of his ambition though he is still consulting and this automatically means he is ready to run in the race for the highly coveted post of the number one citizen of Nigeria.

Although Tinubu is the national leader of the APC yet it doesn’t mean he won’t face any challenge. This has also not guaranteed that he will be the choice of the party because primary elections still has to hold to determine who will be the party’s flagbearer in the presidential election.

Since he has declared his intentions, all he needs now is the support of those that matter in the party so he will clinch the ticket whenever the primary election of the party holds.

One of those he needs to woo is President Muhammadu Buhari. Of course, he has informed him of his ambition but there is no guarantee yet that he has the backing of the president. President Buhari is an integral part of APC and his role in who becomes the next president of Nigeria can never be underestimated. The president hasn’t behaved like one who has a preferred candidate yet but whoever he supports will likely get the party’s presidential ticket. Apart from being the president, he represents the northern power block where the numbers to win an election can be found. If Tinubu is able to get Buhari to his side, he is sure on his way to victory.

Another person he should work on is the governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni who is also the chairman of the caretaker committee for APC, simply said, the acting national chairman of the party. Although rumours have it that all isn’t totally well between Mai Mala Buni and Tinubu but at this point, Tinubu needs the support of Mai Mala Buni. The party will be holding its national convention soon and of course, Mala Buni has roles to play in who becomes the national chairman of the party. If Tinubu is able to get the support of Buni, he can influence the support of the next chairman of the party which will in turn fetch support for him at the party primaries.

Lastly, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs the support of the vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to become the candidate of the party in the next presidential election. There have been rumours that the vice president is nursing a presidential ambition though he has never confirmed neither has he denied it. There is no smoke without fire which means something may be brewing in that direction. Tinubu needs to woo VP Yemi Osinbajo, win him to his side and ensure he doesn’t have the same ambition as his in order to avoid clash of interest.

If Tinubu is able to get these three stakeholders, he is surely on his way to becoming the candidate of the party.
