Tragic! Viral Saki Elephant Dies In Custody Of University Of Ibadan
Trixx NG reports an elephant that went viral after apparently wandering into a farming community in Saki, Oyo State has reportedly died.
Recall a Facebook user, Adesope Habeeb, had shared photos of the elephant adding that the animal came some miles to his farm in Saki.
“We had the visitor came around some miles away from our farm. The visitor was coming from Benin republic en route Nigeria. Farming is adventure,” he wrote.
Giving an update on the elephant, he explained that a delegation of Saki West Local Government and the University of Ibadan led by the Director of the Zoological Garden, Dr Kabeer Popool went in search of the elephant to convey the elephant to the zoo.
According to him all effort to capture the elephant alive was successful but the elephant, unfortunately, died in the custody of the University of Ibadan on Thursday morning.
“Could the elephant have been killed because of the ivory tusk?
“What a loss and all my effort to protect the helpless and harmless creature has been rendered futile.
“Our government is failing us and the animal kingdom on daily basis,” he said.
