The political atmosphere in Nigeria seem to be taking a new turn especially with the defeat of ruling party, All Progressive Congress and incumbent governor Gboyega Oyetola in the just concluded Osun governorship election.

Against the prediction of intelligent political analysts, the candidate of the PDP, Ademola Adeleke won the election to the surprise of many despite the fact that the incumbent also contested in the election.

This development was seen by many as a revolution and mass displeasure of the citizens in the APC government at all levels. At the moment, the ruling party is running helter-skelter working towards securing the presidential seat in 2023.

With the loss of incumbent Governor Oyetola in Osun, some states are also expected to follow suit in 2023 when another round of governorship election will take place.

Among the governors expected to lose their seat is Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state. Uzodinma wasn’t elected as the governor of Imo state but was brought in by a very controversial supreme court judgment that sacked the elected PDP candidate, Emeka Ihedioha. Since his emergence as governor, Imo state has faced so much crisis especially in terms of insecurity and the people are yet to feel the governor’s impact. Undoubtedly, in 2023, Hope Uzodinma will not return as governor of Imo state.

Another is Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state. The governor has been facing party crisis in recent times and may not get the support he got during his first election. APC is currently divided in Ogun state and some of the factions are planning to work against the governor. If this remains, definitely the governor will not return for a second term in office.
