The Big 5 Construct Nigeria opened its doors on Tuesday, drawing a vibrant crowd of over 9,000 visitors and more than 150 exhibitors from 20 countries for a three-day event at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

Organized by DMG Events, this exhibition connects buyers with manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers, fostering networking, business opportunities, and knowledge sharing.

Now in its fourth year, Big 5 Construct Nigeria has experienced significant growth, reflecting Nigeria’s vast construction market potential, from housing and roads to essential infrastructure. This year, the exhibition proudly features new international brands such as Schneider Electric, Swiss Krono, Framecad International, Saint-Gobain, Peri Formwork, and Bosch, marking their debut in the Nigerian market.

Mehtap Gursoy, Portfolio Director of DMG Events, emphasized the exhibition’s significance, stating, “This is Nigeria’s largest construction event, showcasing the growth of our industry, which is poised to surpass $128 billion and contribute to GDP.” She noted that this year’s event has attracted more exhibitors and visitors than ever before, with aspirations for continuous expansion.

Ben Greenish, Vice President of DMG Events, echoed Gursoy’s sentiments, highlighting the unique opportunity exhibitions provide for companies to explore new markets. “With Nigeria’s population expected to double in the next 50 years, the construction market here is immense, crucial for job creation and economic growth,” he remarked.

Industry experts also shared insights at the event. Mr. Eniafe Enianu, Project Manager at Encon Sharon Engineering Services, advocated for an increase in large-scale construction projects in Nigeria, noting that such initiatives can address critical challenges like flooding and urban development.

Despite the excitement, challenges remain. Toye Eniola, General Secretary of the Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria, pointed to ongoing issues with finance and inconsistent policy implementation that hinder industry progress. “Continuity in policy is essential for sustainable development in construction,” he stated.

Exhibitors expressed enthusiasm about the event’s potential for lucrative partnerships. Lara Chalabi, a managing partner at Oak Team Africa, shared her excitement about returning for the third time, while Mr. George Ukap from Lafarge showcased innovative hydromedia concrete designed for efficient drainage.

Mark Cheng, a Chinese exhibitor, is eager to find local partners to market his company’s PVC pipe adhesive, aiming to connect with professionals at the exhibition.

The Big 5 Construct Nigeria is more than just an exhibition; it’s a vital platform for collaboration, innovation, and growth in one of Africa’s most promising construction markets.
