What Is The Offence Of ROTO?

In a recent release by the Ogun state House of Assembly, it was stated that the newly inaugurated Third force of the Tricycle Union known as Riders and Operators of Tricycle Organization (ROTO) is Illegal.

Going down memory lane, one of the Tricycle unions known as Three Wheeler Owners and Riders Association (TWORA) was inaugurated by the then Parks and Garages Development (PAGADA) Board without approval or participation of the then Transport Committee Chairman headed by Hon. Isreal Jolaoso of the Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA).

There was brouhaha of this nature at that time but it didn’t stop the operation of TWORA across the state, meaning TWORA was not gazetted as a Transport union by The OGHA.

In like manner, the just created motorcycle union Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organization (ROMO) was created by The transport Committee set up by Gov. Dapo Abiodun at the inception of his administration to look into Transport Union matters.
It neither went through the OGHA nor PAGADA and has since been operating across the state.
Evidences also show that the said PAGADA recently inaugurated Trycycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN) Excos with Abdulwaasi Agunbiade as the Chairman and Park Management Service (PAM) Excos with Alhaji Akeem Abodunrin as the Chairman late last year.

Both Unions have since been operating without hindrance from The OGHA.

What is it that ROTO has done differently or has not done to attract such legislative hammer on the union that has the capacity to empower nothing less that 300 citizens of the state through its branches across the state.
ROTO has responsible men and women who are capable to run the union peacefully across the state with any rancor or violence.

Could it be connected with the disagreement that ensued before the inauguration between Hon. Akinosi, The Honorable Commissioner for Forestry and the awaiting Excos to be inaugurated?
The Honorable Commissioner demanded that the names of a particular Exco member be removed and replaced with a name of a female suspected to be his female friend?

Upon refusal by the Awaiting Excos, Hon. Akinosi swore heaven and Earth that he won’t allow ROTO fly.

As concerned citizens of our dear state, we plead with our leaders to look into this matter and allow ROTO commence work so as to improve the welfare of some members of the state and as well improve the IGR of the state through the Transport Ministry.

In conclusion, the State Assembly should compliment the efforts of Gov. Dapo Abiodun by finding legislative solutions in other to take this state to a greater height.

It’s not at this critical period of insecurity that is rocking the state, that the State Assembly should be having spare time to wade into Transport Union issue? The government created PAGADA to manage the affairs of Transport Union, Assembly should allow them to work optimally without using Legislation to handcuff them.

Recently there were clashes between the Herdsmen and Farmers that claimed a life in Yewa axis of the state, Unemployment, Cultism Crises in Ijebu, erratic revenue, P&G Nig Ltd just paid off about 300 staff and these are more crisis that the OGHA should find lasting solution to not Transport Matters that Mr Governor had carefully selected capable hands that can handle them.
