Why Dele Adeleke May Sacrifice His Governorship Ambition For Senator Ademola Adeleke

Osun governorship election of 2022 is already gathering momentum with strong politicians picking up nominations forms at the secretariat of their respective parties. While there are no activities yet in APC because of Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s second term, PDP has experienced lots of activities.

Last week, there was little confusion as Senator Ademola Adeleke’s nephew, Bamidele Adeleke picked up the nomination form which will make him stand against his uncle at the primary election to battle for the governorship ticket of the PDP in the governorship election.

Senator Ademola Adeleke no doubt is a known figure in Osun politics, he contested at the last governorship election that saw Gboyega Oyetola becoming victorious though it was by a very slim chance.

For Dele Adeleke, he is more like a newbie in Osun politics even though his surname automatically makes him popular. Of course, it is not a bad thing that he is nursing a governorship ambition but there are some factors that may force him to step down his ambition for his uncle who has also shown interest in the race.

One of these factors is family influence. Adeleke dynasty is a very respected one in Osun state, the family is one of the richest in wealth, name, influence, value in the state therefore, any development that may look like division will be frowned at.

If Dele Adeleke serious means business with this ambition, family members will at the end of the day ask him to step down and support the older Senator Ademola Adeleke for unity to remain in the family.

Also, when it comes to popularity, Ademola Adeleke has more of it. He technically won the last election before it was overturned with supplementary polls. His popularity no doubt swallows that of Dele Adeleke and in politics, when the outcome of a contest doesn’t seem to favour one, the next thing that happens is supporting whoever seems to be favoured. As family members, Dele Adeleke may easily switch to Ademola Adeleke’s camp without any much consultations as the polls may not favour him.
