Why INEC Should Declare PDP As Winner Of Imo North Senatorial Election
Even after election has been held in Imo north senatorial district since December, there are still several uncertainties about who becomes the senator representing the zone.
Although, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressive Congress as the winner of the election, no candidate was returned because two different court rulings had sacked the two candidates of the APC parading theirselves as the right candidate of the party.
There was a new twist to the situation on ground yesterday when the supreme court ruled that the right candidate for the APC was Sir Frank Ibezim, who was sacked by the federal high court for issues that had to do with certificate forgery.
However, just 24hours after he celebrated his victory at the supreme court, an appeal court has dashed his hope of representing the zone after his disqualification was upheld earlier today.
With this development, the all progressive congress can be said to have no candidate in the election, and according to the constitution, the party with the next highest figure will be declared.
In the election, the candidate of the PDP, Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu emerged second, and of course, the INEC has the ball in its court but declaring the PDP as the winner of the election is the right thing
