Yoruba Nation: Police Go After MKO Abiola’s Widow, 5 Others Over Invasion Of Oyo Secretariat

The Police on Monday launched a manhunt for Dupe Onitiri-Abiola and 5 suspected Yoruba Nation agitators linked to the Oyo State Government Secretariat invasion in Ibadan by suspected Yoruba Nation agitators .

The manhunt began after Onitiri-Abiola, widow of Moshood Abiola, appeared in a video declaring independence for Yoruba nation consisting of six Southwest states, she made the declaration that the country will be called “Democratic Republic of Yoruba (DRY).”

Onitiri-Abiola, who is a former gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, declared that the DRY came into existence on Friday, April 12, 2024

The other suspect along with Dupe Onitiri-Abiola are Mr. Garuba Abdulfatai Omotosho, Kehinde Ishola, Mathew Gabriel, Ola Badmus and Kunle Adeshina and 15 others, meanwhile Mr Garuba Abdulfatai Omotosho and 2 others escaped immediately after their arrest.

Parading the suspects, the state Police Commissioner, Adebola Hamzat, described the action of the suspects as criminal and unpatriotic.

“On Saturday at about 0855hrs, information was received that some men , riding on motorcycles, were sighted moving into the main city from Olomi axis of Ibadan. At about 0915hrs, the hoodlums, later known as Yoruba Nation Agitation Group were trailed to the state secretariat, spreading from the flyover to within the premises of the Governor’s Office and hoisted their flag at the House of Assembly, proclaiming the creation of a democratic republic of the Yoruba.

Meanwhile the mother of Abdulfatai Omotosho Alhaja Garuba Salimotu Funmilayo Omotosho who based in No 64 Eruda Street Babiko Ilorin has cries out that his Son is not part of the agitators of Yoruba nation of Dupe Onitiri-Abiola but he’s a member of Chief Sunday Igboho and Baba Akintoye faction “please my son is innocent and he’s not part of the people that invaded the Oyo State secretarial, he belong to Chief Sunday Igboho Yoruba nation not Dupe Onitiri-Abiola faction the mother concluded.

Our correspondent gathered that Mr. Garuba Abdulfatai Omotosho and 2 others escaped from police station immediately after their arrest and their whereabouts is unknown till the time of the filing of this report, also the suspected Yoruba nation agitator names ‘sponsors’

Aside from Modupe Abiola Onitiri, the suspect also revealed that other sponsors of the group reside in diaspora and that they’ve been meeting with them virtually.
