2023: Former Nigerian Minister Dumps APC
Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, has left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
TRIXX NG learnt Usani was one of the pioneer members of the party in the state and was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, as Niger Delta Affairs Minister.
According to Usani, his decision was due to the “democratic shrinking space”.
The 61-year-old had contested for the governorship seat in Cross River state three times: 2003, 2011, and 2019. It will be his fourth attempt if he eventually contests in 2023.
He is expected to run on the platform on the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).
Meanwhile, political youth group in Cross River State, known as Fusion 196, has called on governorship aspirants of the APC to accept Senator Prince Otu as consensus candidate.
The support group, with members across 196 political wards in 18 councils of the state, commended the state governor, Ben Ayade, for keeping to his promise to hand over power to the Southern senatorial district.
