Former Nasarawa State Governor and Nasarawa West lawmaker, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has been officially declared as the new national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was affirmed by the delegates using a voice system during Saturday’s APC national convention which held at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

The Nasarawa Senator had earlier emerged as the consensus candidate of the APC for the national chairmanship position after all other aspirants stepped down for him a few hours before the convention commenced.

He also enjoys the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adamu was later declared the winner by the Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Badaru who is the returning officer for the exercise.

Some other candidates that emerged through the consensus method and were announced by Badaru after a voice confirmation include Abubakar Kyari as deputy national chairman (north) and Jamal Kabir as deputy national youth leader.

With the emergence of a new National Working Committee (NWC), the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) officially comes to an end.

The CECPC had been in charge of party affairs since June 2020 when the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC was removed.
