JUST IN: Atiku Meets Top APC Governors As Wike Makes Move To Support Tinubu For 2023 Presidency

Stakeholders have confirmed the meeting between the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, shedding more light on their parley.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that Wike and Tinubu met outside the country to discuss issues relating to the 2023 presidential election.

Feedbacks from the meeting suggest Wike, who is having a running battle with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar may reach agreements to support Tinubu and the APC in the 2023 elections.

Speaking further on the meeting, a source belonging to the Tinubu camp who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the discussions were very fruitful. He added that more meetings have also been scheduled.

The source revealed that the meeting was attended by six persons, three from each side.

“It was a fruitful outing from our end. Further meetings would be held,” the source said according to Daily Trust.

Faces At The Meeting

The source revealed that Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, were part of the parley from the Tinubu camp while Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) attended the meeting from the Wike camp.

Atiku Also Meeting With APC Governors

A source from the Wike camp also insisted that nothing wrong has been done based on the meeting between Tinubu and Wike.

The source alleged that Atiku has also been meeting with APC governors.

“Atiku is also meeting with some APC governors, why are they complaining? What is good for the goose is good for the gander. It is all part of the game and nothing more,” he said in a phone interview.

The Crisis

The outcome of the PDP presidential primaries for the 2023 elections is said to have caused the rift between Wike and Atiku.

Atiku won the primaries while Wike emerged second but the role played by some insiders in Atiku’s emergence as well as the subsequent selection of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate is said to have pitched the Rivers Governor and the former Vice President against each other.

So far, spirited efforts by the leaders of the PDP to reconcile both men have failed to yield desired results.
