Lagos APC In Cracks As LG Primary Elections Expose Party’s Rots

TRIXX NG reports that the all progressive congress (APC), Lagos chapter might be on its way to break as recent developments have proven that the party is in serious cracks.
Although, in some other part of the country apart from Lagos, the party has evident crisis even up to the national level, but one would never have thought the Lagos chapter would experience any crisis due to the fact that the party national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in the state, alongside many others who are top shots and founders of the party, but unfortunately, reverse is the case.
This would never have been discovered if not for the just concluded APC local government primary elections which held on Saturday, 29th Of May, 2021. The primary elections were held to determine who becomes the chairmanship candidates for the local government elections which will be held in few weeks time.
Before the election held on Saturday, there has been handwriting of troubles right from the screening when some aspirants were disqualified, and later reinstated by the party screening committee, there were so many wrongs, accusations that rocked the conduct of the election screening
Days after the screening, the primary election held across all the local government but unfortunately, an APC affair turned to a war-like situation where aspirants started hiring thugs, cultists to cause mayhem and unrest to make them emerge as the candidate of the party.
In places like Mushin, Ojodu, Oshodi, Somolu, violence was recorded, and some lives were even lost due to the desperation of the candidates. In some parts of Lagos, the results of the primary election are yet to be announced, some were inconclusive, some were cancelled, some local government will have to resort to settling for anointed candidates chosen by party leaders because a simple primary election could not be held successfully.
Infact, some party leaders have even been accused of imposing their candidates in some local government, the speaker of the House of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the deputy governor of Lagos state, Babafemi Hamzat have equally been called out for imposing candidates in about ten local governments in Lagos. Sincerely, the situation of APC in Lagos is appalling.
If Lagos APC could become this tough, then it has proven that there is no place APC is in good standing, no doubt, this will affect the agenda of the party in 2023 because as the day passes, members become aggrieved, and of course, this will in turn open more breakage in the party.
Except the party leaders quickly rise to address these several issues, APC may not live to see 2023 as a united party, but at the moment, the party is in shambles, sitting on a time bomb waiting to explode.
